Kent State enters February with four conference losses for the first time since the 1998-99 season. That year the Flashes surged to a 6-1 mark in the month and went on to win the MAC tournament title.
" USA Today-Around the MAC"

OK, a different team, a different coach, a different year, but it seems to me that many of the same questions were asked about the 98-99 team as this one. We know how those questions were answered.

One thing we do know. This team has some talent if it decides to show up and play with some defensive discipline. It was there early in the OCC games and I believe could arise again. There is an eternity left in the MAC regular season schedule left and despite what others might say, 20 wins can be done and we still control our destiny in the MAC East.

Finally, I like that Mike Scott getting some minutes. I hope we see more of him. We can use his rebounds down the stretch.

Go Flashes!

I agree, Reno. Looking for positives:

1. Interesting article in the Stater about Haynes, his struggles and relationship with Crenshaw.( BTW, it reports a very positive relationship between Haynes and Crenshaw.) Haynes is learning to be the leader, and to let others lead, too, which is a tougher transition than many may think. I hope Wednesday's performqnce was a glimpse of the rest of the season. Remember last February when 'Dre struggled for the last two weeks of the season and then lit up the MAC tourney?

2. Scott reboounded ( no pun intended) to the butt whoopin' on the floor and tough lashin' on the bench he got from J.C. Nice to see no pouting and head back in the game for a frosh. I can't wait to see this kid grow up in the MAC.

3. Youngblood has showed some signs of getting back to his OOC form of late. He's another gun we're gonna need.

4. Gerwid seems to have survived the lastest knee scare and got lots of minutes Wednesday. J.C. told us in November that it's far, far more important to have Nate ready late then early. Maybe Nate will be our February surprise?

The only disappointment is still not much of Meechie.

All in all...the talent is clearly there. The team has not been. We'll know if they can turn this around by next Sunday. As for me, I'm with 'em.

Go Flashes!

Another thing in our favor. Has anyone noticed J.C.'s email address?

We cannot forget this team came a buzzer beater away from beating the #5 team in the nation, Boston College. Plus getting a major win vs Florida State.

I totally agree with the "ready late then early" statement by JC. If we intend on winning the East or a bye in the first round then we are going to need Nate 90% or better. Sunday against Northern doesn't bother me much but Wed. @ Akron does. We have to maintain an inside presence to handle the Zippies and Warz cannot do it alone.

Maybe we got the slump out of our system now instead of at the end of the season..............I pray!!!

If Gerwig can become a bit of a force inside, that might spark some of the others to step it up like they did at
Marshall on Tuesday.

The Zippies have really stepped it up....................boy I wish I could make that game next week!!

It also looks like Youngblood has gotten his game back, and we need him NOW!!!

I wonder if Lebron will be at the game next week to Cheer his buddies from St V (now with the Zippies)?

"Tough Road Opponents
Yes, Kent State has struggled on the road this season, but a closer look may indicate part of the reason why. The Golden Flashes’ seven road losses have come at the hands of teams that have posted a combined 69-5 (.932) record at home this season. Of the seven, five are undefeated at home, including Old Dominion (13-0), Boston College (13-0), Ball State (9-0), Ohio (8-0). The four MAC opponents that KSU has lost to on the road to are a combined 31-2 (.939)."

This makes me feel better....anyone else?????

I think out of the teams Miami, Akron, Buffalo and OU that we have a better shot at putting together a strech run that could land us first place.
Miami places 6 of their last 8 on the road.

Akron seems to be in a good position, but they finish the year on the road at Buffalo so if there is a tie, that could be a backbreaker or their ticket to a top seed in Cleveland.

Buffalo plays 5 of their last 8 on the road

OU plays only 3 of their last 8 on the road, but I think they are overaheiving as they are a very young team and could run out of gas

KSU only 3 road games left and think we havent played our best basketball on the road yet. We have a chance to takeover the Conference, but all we really need is to get to Cleveland, because those are the only 3 wins that matter this year.

This team hs struggled since that loss to BC, but think about it, they havent dropped more than 2 games at a time this year. they are fairly resiliant and still finding themselves, hopefully it will be this month, because now is the time, for them to start winning some big games. I think the key road game is Akron. If we can sweep them this year, I see us finishing in first or second and looking good going into Cleveland.

Well there it is, the Map to the finals, all they have to do is win games.....

Good points. Now is our time.

We do have 4 games on the road left: Akron, UB, CMU, and Miami.

Every year lately, I get worked up over the late season collapse and not winning the MAC overall regular season crown and then I realize that the only thing that matters is 3 nights in Cleveland. Regular season titles are nice , but in the MAC, they don't get you to the big dance! Get at least a first round home game and then get to the Gund. Then take care of business at our home away from home!

Go Flashes!
