Anyone know if Kent is going to have a preseason scrimmage against a Div 1 school this year, as they did against West Virginia the last two years ?

Kentville, I haven't heard anything, but it would be great if they's scrimmage Duke. I bet the players would be thrilled to meet Coach K.

Kent 76, if you want to discuss Duke and the vaunted Coach K, why don't you go over to JJ Huddle? I came here to get away from that nonsense.

I was being facetious, Kentville. One of the reasons I enjoy Kent State and MAC basketball, and rarely watch any "big time" college ball on the tube, is the sickening fawning over those coaches, the "cult of personality" that has developed over the last 25 years: "Coach K", "The General", et al.

Don't tell you don't like those American Express {COME TO DUKE} commercials?

Kent scrimmaged at West Virginia last Sunday per the Beckley Register- Herald. The WV coach was unhappy with his team's rebounding and interior defense, but then, coaches are never happy.

From the Beckely newspaper...
[quote]MORGANTOWN — Some members of West Virginia University men’s basketball team think they’re ready to play a game.
But Coach John Beilein doesn’t think so after what he saw in a Sunday scrimmage against Kent State at the Coliseum.
“We’re not ready to play games yet at all,

More from the Record Courier
Quote:CLOSED DOORS - The M.A.C. Center probably won‘t see a better men’s basketball team than 15th-ranked West Virgina on its parquet floor this season.
Unfortunately, the Mountaineers were in Kent State to play the Golden Flashes this past weekend, and hardly anyone knew it.
Kevin Pittsnogle, Mike Gansey and the rest of the team that fought deep into last year’s NCAA Tournament battled Kent State in a closed-door scrimmage Sunday. Under NCAA rules, only players, coaches and key team personnel were allowed in the gym.
If you believe the scuttlebutt, Kent State more than held its own against last year‘s “Elite Eight“ qualifier.
KEEP AN EYE ON - Julian Sullinger has been a pleasant surprise in the early Kent State men’s basketball’s early practice sessions.
The 6-foot-4 Sullinger, who is the brother of Ohio State’s J.J. Sullinger, has shown a knack for scoring in the paint, and an understanding of the game that is reminiscent of the departed Scott Cutley. Sullinger could be on his way to earning big minutes off the bench at the power forward position.

"We need to work on the inside game and rebounds" is coach speak that works after almost all games.
"We're not ready to play", "We need to be more competitive" and "Everyone needs to get into shape" from the WVU coach, with the KSU spokespeople saying "We more than held our own" means the Flashes took #19 in the nation to the hypothetical woodshed in a "unofficial" game.
I betcha J.C.kept score. :D

This year, the USA/ Today/ESPN pool has WVU as their pre season #15. They return a veteran team whose last game was in the Elite Eight. Hard to find the bad news in the Flashes beating them.

After football this year, I will no longer have expectations or make predictions for any KSU team until I see at least 2 games against quality D-1 competition. That said, I am looking forward to basketball season! Go Flashes!
