Scott Cutley was a nice player, and looked good his freshman year, for a freshman. He really knew the game and did lots of the so-called little things. But, by the end of his sophomore season, it was clear he would not be a great player. He would never have put up big numbers, and is easily replaceable. I wish him luck in his new school. Crenshaw was an exciting player, but clearly had no interest in playing in Christian's system. According to a report in one newspaper, he gave Christian an "ultimatum". No coach is going to change things for one player, unless he's Larry Bird or Michael Jordan, et al, and even THEN I don't think any coach would, because players like that now either go straight to the pros from HS, or hang around college only one or two years. It's got to be really tough to recruit for a mid-major program. Right off the bat, there are all those players you know you can't waste your time on, the guys who are only interested in Duke, Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, etc. You have to be really lucky, get guys nobody wants, like Trevor Huffman and John Edwards, or have guys fall in your lap like Antonio Gates (who would not have considered Kent if it weren't for that assistant coach who followed the head coach to Arkansas), or Wally Szcerbiak, who, along with his father, picked Miami, feeling it was best for his future pro concerns. I think Christian is a good coach, and he and his staff seem to be busting their butts recruiting. Time will tell, of course.
