The following excerpt was taken from the article, "Game Day vs. GPA," in the most recent issue of Kent State Magazine. After reading this article, it makes me question why anyone would ever want to call our players losers. From my perspective, they are winners irregardless of what they have been able to do on the football field. To read the article in its entirety, click on the following link:

From Game Day vs. GPA

Alumni and community members find the classroom accomplishments of Kent State’s athletes as a source of pride, he adds. Wilber says her non-athlete friends have tight time commitments, too, balancing jobs, school and other responsibilities, and they respect what she does to maintain her GPA.

But that’s not always the case, says Justin Aderhold, an offensive lineman on the football team. The 20-year-old junior from Hillcrest Hts., Md., is a premed and biology major.

Really.

“When I tell them pre-med and biology, people say, ‘No, what’s your real major?’ So I just say ice cream. I’m majoring in ice cream. Then they say, ‘That’s more like it.’

We needed some good news, NGF. The article doesn't say that Kent State graduates athletes at a rate of 18% higher than the general student population.
Last year, our football program had a .71% graduation rate, highest in the MAC East.

If they are going to take their lumps, they should take their bows.

Flashfan, I hope you meant 71%, because 0.71 % is nothing to brag about. ( although it might be higher than Marshall's graduation rate).
