It looks as if our early signing period recruiting is complete with the announcing of 2 recruits. After some research, here are my conclusions.

Rod Sherman may be the find of the year. He was injured during his junior year played less than half the year. He is better than a good MAC recruit. I look for him to be our next, shall I say "Trevor". He has the right size, ability, and attitude. He will be fun to have for 4 years.

Thurman Sutton is a question mark. Info on him is limited. He played last year at a L. A. Community College (Harbor}. The level of play is not that strong but he was very strong at that level. There are several concerns. First, he is from L.A. and will he get home sick? Is he another Cutley? Why was he at Community College for 2 years?. I get conflicting info on his height. He is either 6'-3" or 6'-5". I hope it is the latter. I would not say that he is not a good find, he may be. My guess is that he will be helpful with our depth at guard.

For next years team, things are not as bleak as I first thought. I like that we are developing real depth at guard with athletisiam. We are getting to that magic 4 deep which is critical for mid-major (I, too hate that moniker) success against the big boys. From what I saw the other night, our guard future could be very good.

We now need some help on the front like. I know that Q will come in and is expected to be a real force. IMHO, Parks is a project before being a force in the middle. Scott and Knight have potential to develop on the front line, but we need depth. Hopefully, JC can use his other 1 or 2 grants to get a 6'-8" to 6'-9" athletic type. He may surprise us.

I still like players that you have for 5 years playing 4. This is the real factor in mid major vs bigs success. I am not yet a proponent of junior college and community college recruiting. Prep schools are OK.

Now think of future guard play of Gates, Mincy, Smith, Sherman, Sutton, (probably a swing), coming at the perimeter the entire game. With strong development of the young player plus a little help that we do not yet have, and I see the reloading continuing. Upper class leadership may be the problem in 2006-7.

Please post info on Sutton if you have it.
