The Catamounts come in limping after losing 6 of their last 10 games. Still, they have a respectable record of 19-9 and a big road win against Louisville under their belts. Match that with Kent State going for win number 20, a national television audience and the game being one of two remaining home affairs for the Flashes, and I think their is reason to be excited about tonight's Bracketbuster against the Western Carolina.

It sounds to me like Coach Ford and company are approaching this game as laid back as possible. I like the thought of the team coming in a bit relaxed after a couple of lighter days of work. If I were in charge I would keep things light all day leading up to the game. The real pressure shouldn't mount until next Wednesay at BG. Of course, if I were in charge Kent would be 3-24. But the point is that I would just let 'em loose tonight and accept that whatever happens, the MAC regular season title and number 1 seed at the tournament are still in tact. All that said, here is a quick look at the Catamounts:

*Three players average double figures. 6'6 guard Brandon Giles and 6'8 forward Jake Robinson at 12.0 per and 6'2 guard Mike Williams at just over 10 per.

*The leading rebounder is Harouna Mutombo who averages 9 points and 5 boards a game. Oddly enough he is a 6'4 guard.

*Nobody over 6'9 on the roster but plenty of 6'7 type guys.

*There is beer at Rays tonight.

Fallsdog- I'd like to say hi. Are you going to be at Ray's before or after or both?

I can accept what happens as long as its a win and a nice game on National television. Looking forward for everyone out there to hear "we are Kent State."

With as eomtional as this team is, they ride highs, and they sink in the lows. On paper a loss won't ammount to much UNTIL after the MAC-T. However, I'm worried of the mental aspect that a loss could bring a cloud over the guys.

OZoner - I would say that most Kent fans point to the home loss to Green Bay, the OT loss at Miami and probably the BG debacle as the three they would like to have back.

Brash-pm me sometime, I go to Rays before most games.

No, he's referring to the original poster who wrote "Of course, if I were in charge Kent would be 3-24"

My guess is Norfolk State, at Toledo, and RC.

No, I would have found a way to blow the game against Rochester. Make that 2 wins if I were in charge!

Wow, 0 post-game discussion 22 hrs after the game ended, that is very surprising.

I thought the guys got this win while taking it as easily as possible. Geno didn't seem like he was pushing anybody too hard and even BP got a lot more minutes than he is probably used to. I was glad to see us get a win, we boosted our RPI up a little bit and Singletary and Green carried the entire team across the finish line together.

I was very pleased with last nights win.

RE: Western Carolina
Kballard, yea it was a nice win. I thought it was obvious that they weren't putting too much pressure on themselves. At times it was frustrating to watch. The moment that really stood out to me was when Western was dominating us on the offensive glass. After a guy got an offensive board was fouled and was going to the line you could hear Geno yelling all the way from the bench "MIKE BOX OUT". That was right about the 4 minute mark when they turned it back on and salvaged the game. What impressed me about those last 4 minutes was at one point I looked up at the stats on the scoreboard and it was something like 31-25 rebound edge for Western. Kent promptly erased that entire rebounding margin and ended the game even. All in all that was what I had hoped to see from the game. Tyree got his shot going alittle bit. No one got hurt and they won. I sure was holding my breath when Rod went down.

RE: Western Carolina
Rod had a pretty thunderous dunk in the first half, I thought for a moment they were starting to go on a run. Western Carolina had some pretty good perimeter shooting, although it took them until the second half to start kicking in otherwise it may have been a blowout. I have seen this team run away with games as soon as they feel a major momentum swing but either yesterday was not an example of that, or this team doesn't have nearly as much in the tank. I hope they were just taking it easy!

RE: Western Carolina
That dunk was very impressive, shades of Wmu. When he went down in the 2nd half my friends and I all thought he blew out his knee. When the trainers cleared enough so we could see him getting his calf massaged and drinking water we all exhaled lol. I was impressed with Westerns big man Gordon I think it was. He did a good job of playing with 2 early fouls and seemed to be a huge factor around the rim. I wasn't thrilled with some of his extra circular actions after plays. He grabbed Parks around the waste one time after Park dove on a ball and called timeout. Then I noticed him and Simpson getting chippy after plays shortly after that. Still I thought he looked like a pretty darn good player. At the begining of the game I thought he looked like he might give Greene some trouble that sure wasn't the case though.

Did anyone notice the little kid (had to be like 10 or younger) that was 5 for 5 to absoultely dominate the around the world competition during a timeout? Pretty impressive, he put most of the college kids who usually do it to shame. I hear John Caliparri just offered him a scholarship and bought him a new tricycle.

I would be more concerned about keeping Geno happy for that long. 02-13-banana
