Tailgating question
I was looking at Gameday Central on kentstatesports.com and had a couple questions:

Do the lots really open at 12:30 or can we get in earlier?

Is the "no propane tanks" in stadium lots rule enforced? Charcoal only?

Are there any alternatives to parking in University lots? Any private lots available?

We are definitely coming to the game, but wanted to get our tailgate on.

Any information is greatly appreciated.

RE: Tailgating question
Welcome. Maybe someone else could tell you about the enforcement, but a few years back the KCP and State Police made lots of money on tailgating violations, especially alcohol. You can buy beer in the stadium pre game and most of the game.

From the website, but you've already read this:
Quote:All tailgating activities in the Dix Stadium parking areas are subject to the laws and regulations of the State of Ohio and/or the City of Kent Police. Glass, propane tanks and kegs are not permitted in the Stadium lots.

Parking spaces are available on the day of the game on a first-come, first-served basis. Stadium parking lots open three hours prior to game time. Parking in the Dix Stadium east and west lots are accessible via permit or by paying $5 on game day. Free parking is available in the lots on Summit Street west of Route 261. Shuttle service is available from those lots.

Tailgating activities should not take up vacant parking spaces or interfere with traffic flow within Stadium parking lots. Drive lanes in parking lots must be maintained at all times. Parking permit holders are responsible for the functions they host in their parking spaces.

I would take it literally and not violate the rules. They have been sticklers in the past. The grass parking area on the opposite side of Summit used to be more laxed with the rules - I don't know if that's the case this year. There's also the fieldhouse or downtown bars if the weather is lousy. During the game you can buy beer until right before halftime inside the stadium.

Thank you for the quick reply.

RE: Tailgating question
I have heard, (do not take my word on it) that tailgating will be more encouraged this year.

RE: Tailgating question
It certainly will be encouraged more but I am not sure what that may entail. It won't matter to me since the next home football game is homecoming and I will be playing in the band that day so if you find anything out that game that has changed let us know.
