Evan Meyers Recap
Evan's always in-depth report really shows how well KSU played. The Golden Flashes dominated on both sides of the ball, won back the Wagon Wheel and had the fourth largest crowd in school history. Not a bad Saturday for Doug Martin's men!

RE: Evan Meyers Recap
We just need to get some kind of offensive consistency.

I am channeling GF68, but we have to get greater production out of our running game. Our smaller, faster backs don't seem to be finding that first hole fast enough. Given that we have who we have at this point, maybe it's a matter of better coordination between the line and the backs. If for no other reason, we really need the ability to chew up clock time. The series after the recovered fumble in the end zone was critical. Going 3 and out late in the game would have given a better team with way too much time to come back.

Maybe just me, but Spencer Keith looked better than I expected. Our receivers had at least five drops yesterday. He made some bad decisions, too, but none critical and no turnovers. I think the lack of a running game puts too much pressure on him.

On a different note, thought the game day atmosphere at Dix was the best I've experienced in a long time. Students were not only there, but into the game. The band was great pre game and at halftime. Liked leveraging the scoreboard with video and graphics. Even liked the stupid gimmicks to pump up the crowd. And, in one of the better decisions, seating the other KSU athletic teams and coaches right in front of the A-K Raunchies for adult supervision was brilliant.

Face it, we played a I-aa team on Saturday. Yes, I loved the win, but was bored to death. Against as better team, we would have thrown 4 interceptions. We can not kill a clock with this offense. The clock stops after each play and we only consume 10 seconds at most. Our defense has heart, character and talent. I do not know how the offense coordinator can look the defensive coordinator in the eye without falling to his knees. 03-banghead

This game is always a showcase of the worst football in the country. Both teams make mental errors every year that cost big. The question at the end is usually which team plays the worst football. I don't see a championship of any kind coming to either team. All Kent State can say is that we are the Wagon Wheel Champions 2010... Whatever that is.

Raises a good question... Does Murray State count toward bowl eligibility?

Yes. One FCS team per season can count toward bowl eligibility

RE: Evan Meyers Recap
If we can get a decent running game going, this team can win a lot of games. Nothing makes a quarterback look better than second down and two, or three! The fact of the matter is we have a pretty good set of backs, it just has not clicked to this point. Thank God for the defense! Does anyone remember the scrimmage in August. All the running backs looked great, including the freshman Hollomon from Philadelphia. Coach Martin should feel a sense of urgency with the offense, simply because of how good the defense is playing. It would be a shame to waste the effort with a weak offense. Put Roosevelt Nix in the backfield!!05-mafia

Nix on 4th and 1 (or some other big/fast/strong guy) IMO is a great idea. Again last Saturday. KSU struggled to gain 1 yard when they needed it a times. Terry and Archer are just not big enough to get it after they take an initial hit. Nix could probably take 3 hits and still run over a defender. I'd love to see this at the goal line as well.

RE: Evan Meyers Recap
As good as this defense is, the offense can simply be average and not turn the ball over, and the Flashes will be in every game from here out. TO margin and penalties is the key to the rest of the season, IMO.

RE: Evan Meyers Recap
We need an offense that when it is 2nd and 5 or 6 to go, we do not feel like we have to pass for the next 2 downs to pick up the first. We need 4 to 5 minute 75 yard drives down the field. In NE Ohio, you definitely will need a big back. This is just my philosophy, not coach Martins.

I agree with GFlash68. The only big back on the roster is Flowers. I asked david Carducci about his status. One can see his reply on his blog. Basically, he has had injury problems.

RE: Evan Meyers Recap
I have to say, I've been thinking the same about Flowers. I was at the Miami game, and I saw their backs dragging our defenders for key extra yards. Our backs were unable to do likewise. I was waiting for Flowers to get the call, but it never happened. At this cold, rainy game, he could have helped our cause.
