There was a letter to the editor by a Professor Emeritus at Purdue calling for KSU to fire Nielsen in today's Daily Kent Stater. Obviously, it was about KSU paying off Purdue to play Alabama. Unfortunately it is not available on the web yet. If it becomes available, I will post it.

This is one quote, I found entertaining:

"I am embarrassed for Kent State's President, Lester Lefton, for the commissioner of the Mid-American Athletic Conference (*first off get the name right), Jon Steinbrecher, and for the Ohio Gov., Ted Strickland."

I am sure Ted Strickland cares so much about KSU voiding a contract for a MAC football game. Even if he was re-elected yesterday, I believe there would have been much larger issues for him to deal with.

I’m embarrassed for the retired Purdue faculty member who wrote the letter. Fair to assume that he wasn’t a Finance prof.

Wow I can not believe that anybody in Purdue would care about a MAC school (one of their cup cake games) leaving to play another team (alright I can but it is funny). Perhaps he should be more upset at his won team being considered so low that we went to another school to play a much better team at a much smaller chance of winning.

They are probably just insulted that a smaller school would turn them down and actually pay hundreds of thousands to do so. They lost to a MAC team pretty handily that we should have beat they should be glad we don't wanna play them anymore. I hate these bigger schools that feel they control everything and can not be insulted. Purdue, shut up and worry about your terrible football team half of the MAC could beat by 10

I can't believe this human being took time out of his day to write about this game! You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out the huge financial gain for KSU. If this is so bothersome to him, dude must need a new hobby!!

Well obviously he knew that losing the ability to play a game against KSU is a big blow for their program as we are so awesome. We have to be awesome we play big programs like Bama lol.

Let's hope for Purdue's sake he didn't teach contracts. We had one: either play the game or pay them off. We chose the latter. Nothing untoward or even unusual about it.

They should take the opportunity to find someone they could actually beat. Maybe Akron or Findlay.

If I were the president of Boilermaker U., I would have a nice little chat with this gentleman, and ask him if he would like to continue his employment at PU! Advise this man to find something a bit more important to do with his time!

He probably has tenure. That said, nothing like making a jack**s out of yourself. Academics can be so weird.

If he’s a Professor Emeritus as described, the P.U. President has already had that conversation.

I'll find a way to post it over the next few days when I get a chance, it was definitely entertaining!

They lost to Toledo this year, the team is probably happy they do not have to lose to Kent State next year and can schedule some filler D2 school.

My friend and I were kicking around creating a college with a D1 football program whose sole purpose was to lose on the road to BCS schools for big $$$. Like the professional wrestling jobber.

I need to get that going so poor Purdue has someone to play (for $500K or so).

I think we should all get together and contribute to making a letter.

I am not sure we can keep enough sarcasm out of the letter to be a good response :).
