Kent State vs. Texas Arlington
It will be interesting to see how the Flashes spread the minutes tonight against UTA. Brewer, Gaines and Evans all played under 20 minutes last night. Obviously the same can be said of Manley, Johnson and Henninger.

On the other side, UTA spread it out pretty well also. Nine guys played double digit minutes.

I am calling another Kent State victory:

Kent State 71
Texas Arlington 67

Carlton Guyton leads the way with 18

Guyton and Evans need to step up. They were non-factors, essentially, last night, and they are key players. If Jackson had not picked up the slack, it would have been ugly.

Guyton made a lot of free throws late to ice the game. Evans rebounded pretty well. J Greene has got to be better. I don't want to hear about a double-double. He was blocked like 5x in the first half and is turning the ball over at an alarming rate. Also last night, Holt was jacking up a lot of shots and not really making them.

The one beauty I will say is that on a give night you can expect a couple of guys to show up. Between Greene, Guyton, Holt, Porrini, and Evans you have 5 guys that can carry you. If two of those guys show on a given night, we should be in every game with a fighting chance down the stretch. That doesn't even factor in Gaines, Brewer, or Jackson and their contributions.

Still the rebounding percent scares me.

I hope Greene and Manns can be a presence. If tonight is our first complete game f the season, I will start breathing easier.

RE: Kent State vs. Texas Arlington
dannyb,

I agree with your thoughts on Justin Greene. At times I believe in the saying that "stats don't lie" and in fairness I was not at the game, I listened. BUT, his being swatted over and over in the first half is troubling. As is mishandling passes from the guards. Believe me, I feel that in order for KSU to win maximum games this season the team needs Greene to "stand-out" on a regular basis.

On the other hand, I have been impressed with Greene's leadership and "X factorness." I can point to last nights game and the West Virginia game as examples. Even when Justin Greene isn't killing it he seems to be a guy who you can count on to grab big boards down the stretch and get to the line and make crunch free throws. In other words, the stat that clearly seems most important to him is the "W".

axeme, I couldn't agree with you more on Guyton and Evans. I don't know, I have this belief that those two are going to run and gun their way over, around and through opponents on a regular basis. The season is young, but I am eagerly anticipating the night(s) when KSU blows the roof off of a building with their athleticism. Clearly, those two guys will have to lead the way for that to happen.

RE: Kent State vs. Texas Arlington
Not to pile on Greene but right now he leads the team with 38 TOs. The next closest is Porrini (the PG) at 30. If you look at his last four games he had 7, 5, 5, and 8 TO's. He really has to get this under control, to have that from any player let alone a post player is just unacceptable.

If there's any good news, it is Justin Greene so I'm betting he's more upset about the TOs than any of us. Hopefully tonight he can start reversing that trend.

IMO, Guyton hasn’t lived up to his billing since he came to KSU. We can point to single games and points of brilliance, but look up inconsistent and you’ll see his picture.

Flashes 5.5 pt favorites tonight, down from 6. For entertainment purposes only!

Actually, it's been years since I placed a bet, other than with friends.

Greene and Holt off to nice starts tonight. Making shots early. That's a good sign.

If the cbs box score is correct, Jackson, Greene, Holt, and Guyton have scored all the points tonight. Not really liking that.
