RE: Nate Reinking to play in Olympics
Many people forget what an outstanding player he was at Kent State because he didn't play on very good teams.

RE: Nate Reinking to play in Olympics
The whole reason for my existence as a KSU fan, rather than just a mouthbreather at Kent State's campus, is this cat.
It was winter break, 1995. I was at the Ohio game, in the MACC, with a largely locals crowd. (Which means "small crowd.") It was a back & forth game. Kent pulled ahead in the second half. However, OU took the lead with 3 seconds. The OU cheerleaders where running around with their catchy flags. Grube took a time out. The 5 people in the stands watched nervously. Bright inbounds the ball, pass to Reinking. Nate dribbles past half-court, then lobs the 3.... AND DRAINS IT! The next day I signed up for Flasher Brass.

In the mid-90's, he was the brightest of very few bright spots. The only other players of note were Rod Koch, Greg Holman, James Johnson and D.J. Bosse.

RE: Nate Reinking to play in Olympics
I went on a recruiting trip with Coach Grube in the Spring of 1992. I had an exam that afternoon and couldn't travel with the team to Muncie until it was over. We made a stop to watch a kid play in their state tournament game. Walking in, Grube told me, and I recall the exact words, "teams throw more junk defenses at him than Sanford and Son would." Nate had a great game, but his team lost. He has been balling ever since.
BTW, Kent 76, Jeff Anderson led the NATION in 3 point FG% his junior year. I can't believe you don't think Roger Evans and Bronson Cudgel were stars! Come on.

Yeah, Anderson did, then he lost his shot as badly as Steve Blass lost his control. A real mystery. Anderson had a great FT %, too. Then he missed two late in a game at home that would have given Kent State a huge upset win over Gary Trent and OU. Bronson Cudgel! I bet Kent State was the only D I school to offer him...but then, they were the only school to offer a fellow named Trevor Huffman, too.

I don't doubt you, I just don't remember that. Was that the game when they came in to Kent and cut down our nets after clinching the MAC title? I will text him and see if he remembers it that way!

Could be, dannyb73. Anderson lead the nation his junior year, 92/93. They lost that game the next season to OU at Kent on March 2, 1994, 71-70. He junior year, Anderson shot 54% from three-point land. His senior year, he didn't even lead the team. Reinking did at 42%.

RE: Nate Reinking to play in Olympics
This is a really cool story. 38 years old and will play in the Olympics! Awesome to be on a stage that large that late in your career.
Since Britian has never won a basketball game in the Olympics (only played once in 1948), I wonder if this could be another "Eddie Eagle" type story? I could see the Brits rallying around this team and cheering like crazy! Nate won't have to buy in a pub for quite a while!
Tell Nate that the KSU alumni will be watching and rooting for him.

Thanks Danny good stuff. So he wants to become an assistant coach in the states? Add him to our staff and i would suspect that the coaching staff might give our current team all they could handle in a game.

Defenses really focused on Anderson his senior year. No one would let him get open.

RE: Nate Reinking to play in Olympics
Do you know how unbelievably remarkable that is! WOW!!! The news for KSU just keeps getting better and better. Nate is a real standup guy and a hard worker and I wish him all the best. He would make a great assistant coach, hint, hint, when he gets his degree and "retires" from ball. Congrats Nate, we'll be watching and rooting even harder for ya this time around.....
