Coach Stricklin gets new deal
Just read that Coach Stricklin reached new agreement with KSU. This is great news. Good to have a coach that knows loyalty. Good move by Nielson and L2 in moving quickly.

Yes. Kudos to the Kent management. It will be nice to keep someone we really want. Between our basketball coaches and the Cleveland professional teams I never though I would see the day.

I think you guys are missing the big picture. From a loyalty standpoint on the administrations end, this is great, but it still means nothing if Texas or Arizona State (or a handful of others) were to call. Scott would be gone. New contract or not, it won't mean a damn thing.

Anyone can surprise you, but Strick doesn’t seem like a guy who signs and runs. My instinct says if he was ready to go, he would not have signed.

Plus, I don’t think he goes anywhere that he can’t take Mike Birkbeck.

We might not be able to keep him from leaving for the likes of Texas, but at least this keeps dozens of other programs off our backs. It also shows that LL might be coming around to actually liking sports.

Being ready to go and having somewhere meaningful to go are two different things. The only job available was at Michigan and with potential gigs looming in Austin or Ga Tech in the next 2 or 3 years, why make a short term, lateral move?

And to your earlier question on Birkbeck, he did turn down the job in '04 before it was offered to Strick but that likely may have been more of a short term personal decision than a longer term aspiration. I think it is quite possible, if not likely, that Birkbeck is the guy if Scott ultimately moves on in a year or two. I don't think it is a slam dunk that he would follow Scott.

Your 100 percent correct. But at least he isn't leaving for Bradley soon.

I wonder what the buy-out clause is and is it bullet proof?

Go to annarbor.com and laugh at all the foolish scUM fans who actually thought they had a chance to land Strick.

RE: Coach Stricklin gets new deal
There are enough of them on the MAC board from MI-MAC team who are trying to convince people that Michigan is such a great job. It is so great the they just hired a guy who was 20-70 (no typo!) in the ACC the last 3 years.

RE: Coach Stricklin gets new deal
I know the argument that a hypothetical coach who may chose Michigan over Kent State is somehow more valid than the real coach who did not makes my head hurt.

Welcome home, axeme.

If it was most any other sport they may be right but baseball is just not that important or big at Michigan. Hockey, football, or basketball one of our coaches would likely be gone but our coach could do better (I prefer him to stay of course).

Love the commitment to KSU! Now hopefully bases can capitalize on a successful season that basketball never really did in 2002! Utmost respect for Coach Stricklin and his family to choose a happy place without all the pressure and kids probably ringing his phone off the hook everyday......
