5:33 was the best on the team? I'm no expert on running but according to livestrong the average college basketball player runs it in 5:40.

Of course, they're not in mid season form so that's probably a huge factor.

Maybe the average guard does. I personally don't think there are many post players around the country that can do that time (I mean true post players......so Henny doesn't fit my description).

Interesting. I know some news that happened today, but I am not going to steal the thunder. I don't think the two are related (meaning I don't think what I know will become public tomorrow).

So here is to some BIG news tomorrow. 04-cheers

RE: Basketball News -
This isn't related to tomorrows news, but the program is hosting 6'2"+ guard Tyler Ptacek from Strongsville, OH (Padua High School) on Thursday. From what I understand we have already offered, and his decision will come soon likely between us and UNC-Wilmington (there are a couple of other offers he is considering but from what I've been led to believe these are his 2 leaders). He can REALLY stroke it from deep but not sure that his other skill sets project at the high end, mid-major level. That's not to say that a Haut-like stroke wouldn't be a bad thing, very best case.

So by that definition we have at most two post player, right? (Spicer and Tabb) Sure, I would think the Brandon Parks of the world would have a hard time getting close to that but I wouldn't be shocked if most post players could. Guys in the Q/Scott/Simpson or even Manns mold.

Here's a thread on mile times out of Illinois.
http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=169&f=2616&t=9269406&p=2
They mention a couple of their post players (both 6'8" 230ish) that finished in 5:22 and 5:37.

The thing that stands out to me is Illinois coach (John Groce) requires his guards finish in under 5:30 and his bigs under 6:00. So basically if any of our guards played for John Groce they'd be running that again. I'm not criticizing our coaches but that could definitely be a factor in OU's success in the MAC tourney, better conditioned athletes.

KSU requires times of 5:45 for the guards, 6:00 for the combo/forwards and 6:15 for the post players. A minimal difference across the board. Not to mention, this is an exercise that is to measure conditioning at the beginning of school and your offseason commitment. I personally don't believe that a 1 mile run (sprint) that is done 1 time in August has any effect on how conditioned these guys are in the last 5 minutes of a tourney game in March. If you want to think OU won the MAC tourney because they had better conditioned athletes, so be it. All I know is a lack of conditioning had very little to do with our performance.

OU won because it had good players who caught fire and played well as a unit at the perfect time.

Kent did not win because it had good players who caught fire and played well as a unit never.

RE: Basketball News -
I didn't say that was the reason they won I said it could be a factor. It doesn't matter to me how fast the guys run 7 months before it matters. My point is Groce pushes his guys slightly more at the start. Does that continue? Maybe. Does it affect his teams ability to finish strong in March? Maybe.

Regardless I'm not getting excited about a 5:33 mile time. I am glad Morris showed up in shape though.

Not much that we didn't know, but Chris Evans was named one of the top 10 dunkers in the nation. Hopefully, we will get to see Chris dunk the week of the final four (unless we are still playing) in the seniors competition.

Got my tickets, but not without some doing. What the heck is going on in the ticket office. I left several messages, my name and telephone and that I wanted to renew my season tickets but nobody called me back! Thank goodness I am persistent.....and now I can get in line first for my final four tickets with Danny!

RE: Basketball News -
Anyone hearing what the starting 5 will look like when the ball tips on November 9th vs Drexel? I know Holt is working hard to come back from the knee injury, but I would rather him miss the 1st few games then rush back, as he is by far/above the most experienced player KSU has on the roster.

My guess, with no knowledge of what has gone on in the practices/offseason workouts thus far, on the starting lineup:
If Holt cant play:
1 - Brewer
2 - Pope
3 - Evans
4 - Goodson
5 - Tabb

If Holt can play:
1 - Pope
2 - Holt
3 - Evans
4 - Goodson
5 - Tabb

Please feel free to chime in if you have knowledge of the starting lineup and/or the performances of this year's roster thus far in offseason workouts/practices.

Just my two cents: I wouldn't expect much from Tabb, although I hope he surprises. I have heard Chris Ortiz is looking good so far.

Danny you seem connected to program but what is the rule about partying and bar hopping during the season?? One of our non-playing walk on seniors was tweeting at 1 or 2 this am about stuff happening in the bar. This crap drove me crazy last season and seemed to be a real big issue last year with almost whole team.

It is unbelievable how many student athletes tweet about this stuff...during the season, not just the offseason or preseason.

Thanks Danny, I figured you would know more than me. I just thought maybe because of Tabb or Henniger having more experience that they would start the season and be replaced by Spicer or Ortiz as they gain experience and confidence.
