Women's basketball 2012
I just thought we ought to have a fresh start after 110 messages from last season. (I'm one of the 50-or-so women's basketball junkies on campus.)

I know the thread won't grow much for months.

Some new data:

Itziar lobet and Dena Droste have dropped off the roster.

I thought Iobet was the best of the freshmen last season. She started all 27 games. Her father is very ill in France, and she wanted to be home. Droste had knee trouble all year and made no impact. I hear she's going to play for a Division II team in Michigan, where she's from.

Josie Hull, the 5-3 walk-on, dropped off in late spring.

That leaves the team with four seniors and three sophomores returning, plus two J.C. transfers and two incoming freshmen. They have a 6-4 transfer who won't be eligible until 2013.

Back down to 11. They can't seem to get above that number. With four seniors graduating next year it will be tough again. I thought Droste looked good at times. She reminded me of Tiffany Kelly. Good defense but the knee was a problem and probably would have kept getting worse. Hopefully they can hang onto the eleven. That's just enough if they all can play a bit and you avoid serious injuries.

Dani (which she wants to be called) added four people since she arrived in late April. I'd say that was pretty good for starting so late. She knows 11 aren't enough. She said in so many words at a reception back in May. I'll bet she brings in five to seven this year.

And the people she brought him look like an upgrade -- and all-state point grand (replacing the walk-on) and two junior college wings (replacing Droste and lobet). Her fourth recruit is a 6-4 transfer who broke shot-blocking records at Southern Illinois. She has one 6-3 freshman left over from Lindsay's recruits.

Who knows how'll they'll do, but I see potential.

I wasn't criticizing just more or less sighing. I hope she does bring in 5 to 7 next year and I expect she will. If they are the right quality we will be much better off than last year for sure.

I also do believe 11 is enough as long as we don't have a bad year for injuries. A rotation is never more than 9 players so one big and one guard to cover for a minor injury or a game where foul trouble gets you is enough. The last few years we have had anywhere from 6 healthy bodies to 9. That's a disaster.
