Implications?
Interested in your thoughts regarding the implications of the fall off in preps football participation on college recruiting. It's gone from fringe to mainstream, with former Super Bowl QB's and fathers of Super Bowl QB's saying knowing what they know now, they'd never let their sons play football.

Of course, football can ease the situation by changing the rules. ( For example, two points against your team and possession for a flagrant late hit would impose discipline that many coaches do not.) Rule changes like these to make the games safer can happen. But if it does not happen, what are the implications to football? Will preps football die a slow death as a result of lower participation levels and higher insurance costs? As preps football participation closes, what are the implications to the MAC? To Kent State?

RE: Implications?
I do not pretend to know the trickle down effects to the MAC or KSU, but there is always the other side of the coin. Just a day or two ago this article was written about Austin Collie, a WR for the Indianapolis Colts. It is a good read.

RE: Implications?
Thanks, Danny. It is a good read.

I like football. Think it offers many benefits to those who participate. But the game has real and perceived problems right now. The real problems can be addressed and help correct the perception, but action seems slow to me.

Enclosing another article from LA Times about the drop off in football participation rates, not only in CA but across the nation.
