axeme,

Looks like the Flashes will have to do it without us.

As for tonight, Davis doesn't scare me. Take care of business in the paint, and get number 18!

Also, realistically speaking, has anyone else thought about the fact that we should be undefeated in conference play?

RE: Ball State thread
As poorly as we played on offense in the first half, we kept up the defensive pressure all game. BSU was frustrated and lost on offense. Tremendous domination. We've been doing this to teams lately. They think they just have bad games against us, but we have a whole lot to do with making them play badly and lose their will. We saw the same look on the faces of UB and Akron as those games hit the second half.

On to Buffalo!

Sometimes it takes a spark (BG game) to get a team going. Apparently that was it. Shuffle off to Buffalo and the return to the East.

BTW, it's great to see Holt developing before our eyes. We will need that extra depth come "Three Days In March".

RE: Ball State thread
Lets not get too far ahead of ourselves here. Road games at Buffalo, Akron and BG paired with home games against Miami and OU will tell the true tale of how far Kent State has come. Shooting 80+% from the free throw line, nearly 50% from three and out-rebounding the opponent by 9 are just the sort of things that were missing earlier this season.

That said, I do agree that the MAC West is two or three (or more) steps down than the MAC East and the Kent's RPI suffers because of it. HOWEVER, its all about W's at this point and whether it is against a less than impressive Ball State squad or an overly confident group from Akron...I'll take it.

NICE WIN KENT STATE!

Very good game by Holt tonight. When we weren't scoring in the first half he gave us 10. More importantly 6 assists 0 TO's. Simpson looked great again tonight. He is becoming very good at jumping infront of the entry pass into the post much like Q used to do. Parks also played well. Overall a very ballanced game. This is now the second straight home game that Pickney has really impressed me. He is a true slasher, if he can develop a decent outside shot he could be a very dangerous player.

RE: Ball State thread
One thought on RPI. Maybe not playing Youngstown every year is one way to improve our RPI. I mean we heard they were supposed to be much better this year. Yet right now the only teams on our schedule with worse RPI's than them are Norfolk, Samford, and Toledo. Playing them every year is essentially like playing 7 Mac West games instead of 6.

RE: Ball State thread
But who are you gonna schedule. Mid Majors (sorry to use the phrase, but its true) like Kent are stuck. No big boys are coming to the MAC Center anytime soon. Ask Thad Matta, he won't go on the road to play Kent Roosevelt. Kent goes to X, Pitt and USF. How many more of those games should Kent really have to play? It would sure be nice if you get somebody to come to Kent and play, but nobody worth while will. At least with YSU its a reasonable bus trip away. The only thing I can think of is re-upping with Cleveland State. But something tells me Gary saw the writing on the wall when Bullock and Jackson graduated.

Hey, it could be worse, Kent could follow Akron's lead and schedule Regina, Magnificat and Streetsboro's JV team.

Yea, I don't have a problem at all with our schedule. I think it gave us a chance to put together a good RPI. It's just annoying that every year when we go West we win and our RPI plummets. I was just thinking that Y-town is consistently so bad that maybe we could upgrade that. You make a very good point about it being a close game though. Good chance to pick up a road win in nonconfrence with out going to far to do it. I would definetly like to see us playing Cleveland St. again. It just makes so much sense. It's a chance for both teams to play a very solid mid major team and not have to travel half way across the country to do it.

RE: Ball State thread
That game was boring, the highlight for me was seeing Grimsley hit a triple. I still think that WMU is the best MAC west team even if their record doesn't show it. They were the only team that looked like they had a clue what sport they were playing. It's possible that Singletary took a nap through a small portion of this game. I almost did too. I'm looking forward to the MAC east swing because I want more than 1 entertaining games for every 4 we play. Getting to 76 pts with that kind of scoring distribution is a big deal though. Its nice having a team that has players that don't average 1 minute a game holding off the starters of other teams, I must say that.

I don't want to be cocky and say that KSU is going to roll through the MAC because I've seen a Kent team follow up a top 25 berth with a flop to a terrible BG team, but I agree about the undefeated thing! If we don't get redemption wins against BG and Miami I will be bitterly disappointed.
