Community colleges fill a role that is only becoming more important given the current economy and the skyrocketing prices of higher education at both private four year school as well as public universities and colleges. They provide the foundation for many lower-middle class and lower class students to further their educations and fill gaps in their knowledge that may exist from their high school days. Furthermore, I am finding that even more middle and upper income students are starting their college educations at community colleges to save their family the money (for full disclosure, I am an adjunct at the local CC).
As a result, I believe that athletic programs should (and even, to take it a step further, must) recruit from their community colleges and it is a perfectly acceptable practice. By all accounts, Henry-Ala is the team's best student and he is a product of the community college.
I guess from my perspective, purely basketball, was Henry-Ala a good recruit? He has started much of the year, but has not contributed a huge amount. I would rather use that scholarship on a four-year guy who might be a bigger contributor by his junior and senior years.

From a purely basketball prospective, Henry-Ala was a more valuable contributor than McKee and Parks; his defense was a plus, his plus/minus was very high. Star, no. Fit well into the program and made a good contribution, yes. I think from a basketball prospective, he was a no-brainer.

I agree with Bopol. Henry-Ala was an excellent recruit.

Yes, Henry-Ala is without question a good recruit. Without him we may not be Mac champs right now. He is our best offensive rebounder and one of the top defenders on the team. He is a Kent State type basketball player, his value does not lie in his numbers.

Meh, I will agree to disagree. He seems like a nice program guy on a good team, but someone you never notice on a team that does not have a Singletary, Greene, Sherman and Simpson.
