I pick Kent to win the east no doubt. Sure we may be young and inexperienced, but look at the level of talent and athleticism on this team, I can't think of another MAC team that beats us. Sure OU will be right there with us, but I believe we can handle Cooper and Freeman with all this talent.

RE: Another Hoops Preview
Pretty meaningless. Such predictions are made solely based upon who left, who's back and the rep of the newcomers. Sure, those three things matter, but there is no way to tell how teams will really gel unless the one doing the predictions watched several practices from each team. Conference predictions are more meaningful if made just prior to the conference season.

I only hope that this is another one of those "Kent State will not be very good" articles that will not pan out.

I'm reasonably confident they'll be good. The question is, "how good"?

Believe me I hope you're right, but w/o seeing this team play a single game or ever seeing any of the 7 new players perform in COLLEGE (high school means very little), I don't know how any of us can be sky high on the team just yet. I have learned not to "buy the hype" until I see 'em with my own eyes. I remember a few years ago when Coach Christian told some of us how good Rashad Woods was gonna be and ever he missed on that one.
We'll soon see for ourselves!

OU is bringing back several players that have a lot of experience. The Sweet 16 will do that. Kent State will reload, but I doubt getting by Ohio is going to happen. But a lot happens to a team between October and February. Kent might not be the team to beat Ohio NOW. I just don't see Akron being the team to step in if Ohio falls.

What are you smoking? OU lost their best player and aren't all that. We are going to be strong. I will venture to say we will be the most athletic team in the conference. KSU is going to play fast (maybe faster than you have ever seen us play) and we are going to make a serious run at the MAC title. Porrini and Guyton are looking good and I can tell you the staff is excited about this team.

RE: Another Hoops Preview
Without clicking on either of the links offered on this thread:
The trick for fans is going to be patience. The early part of the season could be rough for Kent and that may not be a bad thing. If Sherman and that rest of the returning players keep coming to work everyday and don't get to frustrated, by MAC time this team could be ready for another one of those 8 game winning streaks. That said, I hope Rod and Justin Green are not afraid to get into some of these newcomers business if the situation requires.
It seems to me that little by little Geno Ford is putting his "stamp" on this program as far as players. My perception is that Holt, Johnson, Gaines, Leonard, Guyton, Porrini, Nealy and even Manns are guys that can run the floor. I am confident that Kent fans should feel pretty good about what Coach Ford and his staff can do with a roster made up of mainly "their guys."

I had the happy opportunity to meet and talk with Rod Sherman a few weeks ago. Not surprised that J.C. called him “The Rock.” He’s just the kind of leader this team needs; not overly excitable but intense and direct.
He talked about his responsibility to let the players coming in understand what it means to play for KSU. I have no doubt he can do it.

Well a slow start would not be unusual for any Kent team.

Sherman reminds me of Bryan Bedford and I mean that as a high compliment.

The team may have an adjustment period once the regular season starts, but don't most college teams? I'm actually pretty excited about this group! So far, from what I read, defense is again going to be a staple for Coach Ford, and it appears we have some very good shooters! I can't wait to see them play.

RE: Another Hoops Preview
Any article that thinks Akron is going to be a contender at all this year is confusing to me. They didn't "barely miss" a tournament appearance, they didn't have a chance because they had a cruddy RPI just like they always do.

These preseason polls are always humorous to me. Seems like every year for the last 5 we were picked 2nd or 3rd in the East. Yet we have 3 championships in that span.

Preseason polls are like belly-buttons!! Everyone has one, but when you get right down to it, who cares about them! Coach Ford and the boys are going to do what they do every year: Take care of business!! You know what I think of the pollsters, everyone also has one of these!
