New play-by-play voice
I was trying to think of all the play-by-play voices for Kent State football and men's basketball since I listened to my first broadcast in 1972. I recall Tracy Jackson, Steve Hamilton, Les levine, Don Ursetti, Frank DeMarco, Steve Sefner, Bill Needle, and of course Tom Linder and Ty Linder. I recall the "flagship stations" being WKNT, WAKR, WHLO and WNIR during the same time frame. Am I correct? Am I forgetting anyone or any radio station?

Was Linder let go by the University? The radio station? Any info? To be honest, I got pretty used to Bill Needle and appreciated his energy and passion for the basketball team. Although he was quirky, you knew he was a Golden Flash supporter and frankly thats all I needed. Of course, I grew to get used to Linder over the last few years as well. Sure, at times he missed action, but his calls were unique and he kept the listener interested.

So who is next? Who are they looking for....Al McGuire or something. Find a homer and stick with him for god sake!

Most of the guys I can say I do not know why they left. However, keep in mind the pay probably isn't that good and bus trips to Muncie, Indiana and Kalamazoo, Michigan stink. I am sure we bus it everywhere in the MAC and sometimes these guys give it all they have to make it work. Man was it some kind of funny on a bus for hours with Frank DeMarco. A story for another day. 03-lmfao

Linder is a nice guy, but I cannot stand his basketball play by play. It seems as though he got caught up in the flow and forgot to indicate what was going on. I miss Bill Needle. Can't believe I said that. 03-melodramatic

Needle wasn't the best 'play by play' guy technically, but he did care for the programs and that came across in his work. I always could sense that and it made me forgive some of things he didn't do as well.

So how do we hear this year's Voice of the Flashes? I see no audio or video links for this weekend's games.

Should be able to watch the KSU-CSU game through the Horizon League site.

Ty Linder now calls the games, fallsdog.

I note the Kent State is favored by from 2 to 3 points.

Will Lindner call the Army game, then head to Cleveland for the Bryant game? Should be enough time, I would think.

Maybe. But in the past when the two sports conflicted they had a sub do the basketball game. Wonder if they have that planned? Maybe Black Squirrel radio will do it!

RE: New play-by-play voice
I just realized the Bryant game is not at night, but at 3:30. Army game at 2. Guess someone has to choose.

It's not really a choice for me, however. I'll watch the first half of the Army game, but after that, it's hoops for me.

RE: New play-by-play voice
Linder said that they will announce the weekend's "sports schedule" later.

I mentioned this some weeks ago, but I still find it odd that the radio commercial for the KSU bookstore has playing in the background the "New Colonial March", the fight song for Stanford, among others, and not Kent State's fight song. Actually Stanford calls it "Come Join the Band", but the music is from the trio from the "New Colonial March".

I agree. Not too flashy, but seemed to keep up with the action.

+1. He did a nice job. Called the game, gave some perspective.

As an aside, would have loved to hear Bill Needle call the game tonight. He might have needed CPR in the last minute.

Ty is actually Tom's nephew. Does anybody know if the women were on? Ty did the women's games the last few years.
