RE: Kent State vs. Iona Game Thread
I went to the game as well and agree with the general thoughts everyone has. I was very disappointed in our ability to handle the press, at least that should develop as the season goes on. Manns' didn't change as many shots as I expected but I also thought he looked more timid than he did in the exhibition. I'll chalk that up to his head spinning a bit in his first D1 action.

For the most part I thought our freshman played like freshman but they did go hard. Gaines gets after it on D. He got beat a few times from overplaying but as Manns gets comfortable and Nealy gets healthy the guards will have the chance to overplay.

Finally, Greene and Sherman simply were not going to lose that game. They clearly did what you want your top two players to do.

I agree, especially about Greene and Sherman..................

Akron played Milllikin last night. Millikan has it posted that it was an exhibition game but Akron has it as a regular season game. Can it be both?

bball4me, I suppose it's possible, but not likely. Maybe one of the two sites is in error. I know you can't have an exhibition against a team in your own division, but other than that...

I looked at Millikin they are Div III and went 7-18 last year. I just don't understand why a team like Akron would schedule them for a regular season game.

D III? HA! I thought they were D II. Well, it's not unusual for a D I team to play ONE D I or D II opponent, even though a win doesn't "count" for RPI or tournament selection purposes. CSU plays Urbana Monday. I recall Kent State losing to Capitol in the mid or late 1980's. I thought that that was pretty much over, though, when exhibition games against such teams began to be permitted. Exhibition games used to be against variou touring foreign teams and Athletes in Action and the like.

Oops - I just checked the schedule and Kent State also plays Urbana this year. They are D II.

Kent's playing Urbana as part of this World Vision tournament they are in this weekend. So they didn't go out of their way to schedule a D2 team.

Akron might have scheduled Milliken as a late replacement for someone who backed out. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Agree, Bopol. It's fine to play one non-D I team, and can even be a necessity if there are scheduling problems.

Army up 28-7 just before the half. It is a thrashing. Just in time to start following the basketball game.

Here is a clip of the last minute and half of the Friday game that I picked up off the MAAC board.
