RE: Penn State Game
I keep saying it, but one of these days we are going to win one of these games. It will be an improbable scenario for the rest of the football world but, it won't be completely dumb luck on our part. I thought BC was going to be the more likely candidate for an upset this season, but Penn State could be it as well. I know a few PSU allumni out here and just last week one of them said they were going to absolutely crush us. I would love to put it back in their smug faces.

Barring injuries, we have absolutely nothing to lose this Saturday. We need to play like it. It can happen and I want to finally see it.

Go do it Flashes - Redeem the MAC's honor.

RE: Penn State Game
In case you are not reading David's blog, he had a quote from Lou Holtz who picked Kent over Penn State.

Thanks, Lou, for giving Penn State bulletin-board material!

I appreciate that Lou is a KSU alumnus and has reportedly donated a lot to his alma mater, but I never liked the guy.

I'm not sure why people read into this that much. If Penn State wins, it won't be because Lou Holtz said they wouldn't.

AlphaFlash, because there is not much else to talk about until basketball begins. Football is only played once weekly and we all know that there is virtually no chance that Kent State will win this Saturday, hence Lou Holtz as a mini-topic of discussion.

Exactly. It's not like PSU is going to get bigger, stronger, deeper or faster because Lou made a "shock the world" prediction 48 hours before game time.

I will agree with Uncle Lou on this. Never though I'd hear him say that, either.

Just out of curiosity, I think that was the first time I heard Lou ever aknowledge Kent State. Am I right about this?

No he has said it multiple times just never really has a chance to bring it up. Its not often that the game deserves mentioning. But if you read his book a good portion of it is about his days at Kent as a player, student, and coach.

RE: Penn State Game
About Holtz mentioning Kent, there's been several times when Mark May and Lou have bantered back and forth about their alma maters. There was even one episode where they did an EA sports simulation game between Kent and Pitt.

About this game... more of the same unfortunately. Through the first quarter the defense doesn't look too bad, but the offense is hurting the team the most. Keith doesn't look good at all. Not sure if it's nerves, inexperience, or just a bad day. It's games like this that it's not so much about a win as it is to build experience for the team and to walk away with minimal injuries.

I'm seeing some good things actually. There are some productivity, but a lot smudges. Keith is not looking too with-it.

RE: Penn State Game
Well yeah, they are moving the ball some, and the defense has made some good stops. But my point I haven't seen anything extraordinary from the team to brings hope for the rest of the season. I understand the staff hasn't changed much, but still the same play calling.

Fumble recovery on the 40, and another missed opportunity on national tv.

RE: Penn State Game
This is really frustrating too, because I know Keith looked real promising last year and put up some good numbers. Today he just looks like he wouldn't even make a JC squad. His inaccuracy is just unacceptable. Hopefully Martin will throw in someone new on this next drive just to mix things up.

RE: Penn State Game
All through the game, I kept wondering what the offense would look like against a MAC defense. There were some bright spots on offense, a few drives where we moved the ball, then some dismal ones. I just can't tell on Keith, but will wait until he's not playing against ACC and Big ten defenses.

For the most past, our O line looked improved. Did anyone think that there was a missed interference "no call" on the pass on 3-5 after the interception? It was the momentum back breaker?

I think the defense can win games for us in the MAC.

My bottom line is that the game could/should have been closer, but we didn't embarass ourselves. Just glad its over and we can get on with MAC play.
