(05-13-2012 07:43 PM)burden Wrote: We swept Miami and are now 21-3. Toledo swept also and stayed 5 back so they will be a threat in the tournament. The league really has separated into 3 groups. Kent being the first group with a significant lead over group 2 (Toledo, Ohio and the 3 Michigans) and they in turn have a significant lead over the other 6 teams which are bunched together.
Going into the week our RPI was up to 118 so maybe we can break 100 with this sweep. We will see.
Does anybody know if the baseball tournament will be like the womens softball where 3 and 4 get a bye and 1 and 2 get a double bye?
Congrats to Stricklin/staff/team, really impressive run this year. 11th regular season championship in program history. This will be an interesting week, preview of EMU @ the MAC tourney site and then 3 vs Akron/Rembeliak, with 1 being @ Canal Park and the other 2 at their horrible field.

RE: Baseball Team
After Canal Park the series shifts to Schoonover Stadium in Kent.
Congratulations to Coach Strick on career win #300 today.
To answer burden's question, the MAC Baseball Tournament is actually two tournaments in one. Seeds 1, 8, 4 and 5 are in one double elimination bracket and seeds 2, 7, 3 and 6 are in another. The two bracket winners meet in a one game final.

Flashes win 6-1 in Diamond Classic Thursday and 15-2 here today. Would be nice to see some of you at Schoonover Stadium tomorrow to celebrate the careers of five sensational seniors.

Another nice win. This time 2-1. We ended up 24-3 and we gave the two BGSU games away. We came very close to going undefeated in the MAC. A fantastic season. On to the tournament.

Also with the win we have kept Akron out of the MAC Tournament. We face Buffalo Wednesday night. Ohio and Western Michigan are in our half of the bracket. We went 9-0 against those teams in 2012.

RE: Baseball Team
The only team that worries me is Toledo. They have won 13 out of their last 15 conference games (lost two non-conference to Ohio St and Michigan St during that stretch) and 7 in a row. We split two non-conference games with them so in a one game championship game that will be worrisome. To me baseball is the worst game for playoffs. The worst team in the league beats the best 1 out of 3 so one slip up and funny things happen. Let's hope for no slip ups.

RE: Baseball Team
Nice, long, in-depth article today in Baseball America about KSU's senior class and season:
Flashes of Greatness
Quote:...Kent State's 2008 class stacks up among the nation's best too, in hindsight. That class featured a trio of players drafted inside the top 10 rounds as juniors last year (supplemental first-rounder Andrew Chafin, fourth-rounder Kyle McMillen and ninth-rounder Travis Shaw), and a group of stellar seniors who are gunning for their fourth straight Mid-American Conference title this week. The Golden Flashes have caught fire down the stretch, ending the regular season with a 13-game winning streak to finish 24-3 in conference play, winning the East Division by eight games...
...An impact shortstop, a power-hitting catcher with good defensive and leadership skills, and one of the most accomplished pitchers in MAC history—and that's just in the senior class. It's fair to say that 2008 recruiting class was a success.
"This is the best class we've ever had," Stricklin said. "It's unbelievable what this class has been able to accomplish. If you could go back and retroactively rate that recruiting class, that's a top-10 recruiting class in the country."...
A lot more details if you follow the link.
Flashes are ranked #27 this week.

All the lower seeded teams have won so far. We are up 4-0 in the 4th though. Hope we keep it up.

So much for worrying about Toledo. They lost their second straight game and are out of the tournament.

We were down to WMU 3-1 after 6 but we have scored 3 into the 7th and so far 8 in the 9th. Looks like we will be in the winner brackets championship game tomorrow.

We will play the winner of WMU and Buffalo tomorrow afternoon. They would have to beat us twice to keep us out of Saturday's championship game.

Go to the Kent State or MAC web site and you'll find it. On the Kent site go to baseball and schedule and there will be a live stats click on and you can follow it pitch by pitch. We are currently up 8-3 with Buffalo batting in the 8th but a thunderstorm is rolling through so they are delayed.

Won 8-3. We have had a favorable draw. Playing the 8 seed, 5 seed an the 8 seed again. We likely will play the 3 seed tomorrow unless number 7 Miami wins two.
