Baseball Team
Off to a 6-0 start in the MAC. Beat NIU(home) and Ball St.(away) 3 straight.

RE: Baseball Team
Can't ever complain about a 6-0 start but the 2 mac teams we have played are a combined 12-39. Add in crappy Buffalo team this weekend i would hope we are 9-0.

But and i think coach would agree this version of flashes have hit pretty poorly (ignoring yesterday) and the timely hitting has been even worse. But our top 3 pitchers are going to make us the favorites.

RE: Baseball Team
Why is the loss to Toledo not counting toward our conference record?

RE: Baseball Team
It was scheduled as a non-conference game. Just a way for the teams to give their backups some field time mid-week and work out some kinks in a game situation. I assume both teams needed to fill a hole in their schedules.

RE: Baseball Team
Two more late inning wins against Buffalo. Three in the ninth to win 5-4 on Friday. Three in the 7th and 8th to win 6-3 Saturday. I guess we are listening to Durocher. Beat the bums and split with the good teams.

RE: Baseball Team
Flashes now 9-0 and a three game lead over their nearest challenger in the MAC. Best start in program history within the conference. A three game lead with three weekends gone by is unheard of.

RE: Baseball Team
Well we got a dose of our own medicine today. Blew a 4-1 lead in the 8th. Then a 5-4 lead in the 9thand finally lost 6-5 in 14 innings.

RE: Baseball Team
Lost another one today in similar fashion, 9-6. Had four errors including a suicidal 3r throwing error in the B8.

Also got a taste of some Steller Field home cooking in what sounded like a very poorly umpired game.

RE: Baseball Team
Definitely a big disappointment to lose the 1st 2 games of the series, as Akron is in a rebuilding year and just swept BG last weekend. BG's home field is known to be a launching pad and usually has a lot of crazy things happen. Hopefully Skulina can throw a gem tomorrow and the defense can play error free behind him.

RE: Baseball Team
How about a 10-0 lead after one inning leading to a final of 31-20. Kent won. There must be something in the air in BGSU.

That score is nuts. I had to look up the game to see if it was true!

That's impressive with the amount of offense they lost to graduation/draft last year. I would hate to see where they stand in rankings for fielding erros, as it seems they have 2 or 3 errors per game, which has led to ugly losses against BG recently.

RE: Baseball Team
I looked up their RPI today and it has dropped from a high of around 40 to 145. Looks like a 4 seed even if we win the MAC. I know they aren't as important as in basketball but when reviewing last years field they looked like they did count for something.

RE: Baseball Team
Another sweep as they beat WMU today. They are now 15-3 and have at least a two game lead over Ohio. They go there for a three game series next weekend.

RE: Baseball Team
Now +3 over OU and TOL as the kittens lose to BUGS on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth.

Three games up with nine conference games to go - five of which are in Kent.

I like their chances. Bores/Skulina are really starting to show their ability/talent.

RE: Baseball Team
Kent won the suspended game so they now have a 4 game lead over Toledo, who lost Friday, and Ohio with only 8 to play.

Just won the second game 8-1. Things are looking good.

RE: Baseball Team
Won again today and Toledo also lost so we are 5 up on Toledo and 6 up on Ohio, EMU and CMU (with tiebreakers on CMU and Ohio, did not play EMU) with 6 to go. We play Miami 3 at home and Akron 2 at home and 1 in Canal Park. We clinched the East and have a magic number of 2 to clinch Toledo. We still had an RPI in the 130's prior to this series and most of the MAC is 200 and below so even if we sweep the last 9 I doubt we get above 100. That means the MAC tournament will be key for getting into the NCAA.

RE: Baseball Team
We swept Miami and are now 21-3. Toledo swept also and stayed 5 back so they will be a threat in the tournament. The league really has separated into 3 groups. Kent being the first group with a significant lead over group 2 (Toledo, Ohio and the 3 Michigans) and they in turn have a significant lead over the other 6 teams which are bunched together.

Going into the week our RPI was up to 118 so maybe we can break 100 with this sweep. We will see.

Does anybody know if the baseball tournament will be like the womens softball where 3 and 4 get a bye and 1 and 2 get a double bye?
