Not trying to highjack your DH convo here, but I watched the vid and was wondering why Dri was wearing a 26 jersey for the RU game?? Wasn't able to watch the game so this is news to me...

Completely asinine statement. He has put together two outstanding classes - the first of which he and his staff put together basically two weeks after getting the job.

They are responsible for Pat McShane, Chris Humphrey, Josh Boyle, (Humphrey and Boyle are two of our top four receivers) Trayion Durham, CJ Malauulu, Anthony Melchiori (best punter in the league), Jordan Italiano and several other players whose presence has been necessitated due to injury.

I'd also point out the previous regime was ready to move on and considered Dri Archer somewhat of a lost cause with his academics. Darrell Hazell refused to give up on him.

And this is just in two years at Kent. Lest we forget what he did in Columbus. Remember the name Ted Ginn, Jr.? Ask anyone at one of DH's former schools about his recruiting ability.

Archer had his jersey get ripped off of him early on in the game, so they replaced it with the 26 jersey.

In all fairness, McShane was on campus for quite a while and nobody on the coaching staff had any clue he was even on campus despite one of his old coaches on board and despite the kid being from the local area. Total luck, actually embarassing they never knew he was even around. They fell into him when he took the initiative to hunt down the coaches. Archer signed with the previous regime, Boyle verbaled under them and many from the Class of 2011 were lined up by the previous staff for the new staff to get the signatures on signing day. That said, Hazell was hired at the end of Decembver and from then until signing day at the beginning of February the staff busted tail to maintain the verbals and secure others.

Ask any number of Ohio HS coaches about DH's recruiting ability. I hope we can keep him around another year just to see the recruiting classes.

I just want to remind everyone that this years seniors and redshirt juniors that the previous staff brought in was rated no.1 on rivals in the MAC. This years juniors and redshirt sophmores was rated 3rd best class in the MAC. Throw out Hazells 1st class because of the late start (although he did convince Durham to come here and we all see how that has worked out) his 2nd class was rated 5th on rivals. The point being the previous staff done a great job recruiting and I thank them for it,whether they could have won with them we will never know but Hazell and staff are and thats what counts.I think Hazell has done a good job recruiting and should get better as the wins pile up. Its all good! we are heading for a shot at a MAC championship and a Bowl game. I expected nothing less when these kids were 1st and 2nd year players, you could tell there was a lot of talent.

The talent does not matter if the wrong coach is in place. It was not hard to see what was going on with the previous staff and I said so many times. Of course, some were close to the coach and wanted to keep him because he was such a nice man. When I called for his replacement, the nice guy supporters countered very strongly. Now those same people are on the Hazell bandwagon as they should be. No doubt that this coach gets it and it shows on and off the field. It reminds me a lot of when Don James came in. You can see the same type of professionalism around the program. I am in ecstasy once again.

For the record, I was a Martin supporter and wanted him to succeed. More importantly I wanted the program to succeed whoever was the coach. Martin worked hard and deserved to see some reward for his effort. It didn't translate to wins, but he also left the program better than he found it from a talent perspective. I happen to believe that every coach has to build on the previous foundation. In Hazells case he has started there and added to it. My hat is off to him. He has had succeed where others haven't although if you would have asked me after the Kentucky game I would have told you that it sure looked like the same old Kent State Football.

So GFlash68 you win the prize as the smartest guy on the board with the smallest ego as well. Although I seem to recall a post a month or so ago where you said that said Spencer Keith was not a D1 QB- I guess at some point if things go badly you will remind us of that pronouncement as well.

Know it all guys like you alienate the fan base and discourage posting. Congratulations.

Agree on all points. I also remember Coach James and see the same character in Coach Hazell. No matter what happens, think we are going to be talking about Darrell Hazell for a long, long time.

Heck I wonder what it would be like if we were losing. We are all getting a bit touchy lately.

I think you are a little too sensitive and missed the purpose of my post. Yes, I may sound somewhat egotistical, but I really wish to justify the need for the change and support Coach Hazell as having the qualities that I have not seen in a coach at Kent since Don James. I doubt that I have alienated any Kent State fans that know the first thing about football.

Sadly there's quite a few good devoted football first fans that won't come here anymore because they don't prescribe to the theory of blowing up football and put that $$$ into basketball that the majority here have....then again with a few wins it's all a distant memory.

That's a gross overstatement of what has always been a small minority opinion. 90%+ of the posters here have always supported all KSU sports. I know of a couple of people who thought we should drop football and some more who questioned the direction of a long floundering program, but almost all agreed that changes needed to be made until the program could find success. A lot of that was frustration, which as a fan since the early 70's I can tell you was a too common emotion most every year.

No overstatement at all, scroll through the back pages even to just a months ago. Funny how the perception changes from 1-6 through an 11-2 run with the same people involved in the same program. But of course that 90% knew for a fact Hazell had that 11-2 run in him so just disregard the comments during the 1-6 portion.03-shhhh

I think that we don't know how not to *itch about football in October. It's hardwired.

1. If you ever said that all you wanted was KSU football to be successful and that you'd support it no matter what, congratulations. You have your day in the sun.

2. If you ever said that KSU should drop football or fix it, you have you answer. We've fixed it. Congratulations.

3. If you were sick of football losing, Congratulations. We're winning.

4. If you've been on this forum long enough to be called a fair weather fan, congratulations. You've seen a lot of bad weather in KSU football. Enjoy the good weather.

5. If you are a (fill in the sport) "first" anything fan, this is a forum where all KSU sports are discussed, cheered and slammed, often in the same thread. If you are "alienated" because someone disagrees with you, this might not be the place for you.

We're all together. Let's go forward. K.S.U.!

good post! I have watched this team for 4 years and am not going to waste my time dwelling in the past. I was standing in the front row after that Rutgers game when all the players came rushing over to their fans after the game high- fiving the fans and singing the fight song. PRICELESS!! If you could have seen the pride and joy in these young mens eyes, they have worked so hard and are being rewarded. DO NOT DWELL IN THE PAST,DO NOT DREAM OF THE FUTURE,CONCENTRATE THE MIND ON THE PRESENT MOMENT
